Title: Frederick
Author/Illustrator: Leo Lionni
Genre: Fiction
Awards: Caldecott Honor
This is a cute story about a little mouse that seems to be lazy and does not help any of his family/friends during all of the seasons until Winter comes around. During every season besides Winter, Frederick sat and absorbed the colors, and the smells, and every detail that he knew would be missing during the Winter, so that when the season came he could offer those things to the other mice. Even though the mice complained when Frederick seemed to be doing nothing, when Winter came around they were very thankful for all that he had taken in during the other seasons.
I would do a read aloud to of this book to an elementary classroom to teach them about team work. I would want to teach the kids how every roll the mice were put in they worked hard at it and when it was their time to shine, they would. This would be a great way to explain different rolls, or jobs to the classroom such as, the door holder.
